/ POV ON OCULUS RIFT
One of the things that Discovery prides itself on is it's ability to engage deeply with it's clients. To that end, we are always looking for opportunities to do just that.
/ ENTER THE OCULUS RIFT
/ WHAT IS OCULUS RIFT?
It is an advanced Virtual Reality Headset that features Low Latency 360 degree head tracking. This allows the user to look around the virtual world just like you would in real life (in layman's terms, when you move your head the screen moves with you). The Rift provides a steroscopic 3D view and a super clear HD screen. Best of all, it is wearable and affordable.
Are you skeptical?
That’s fair. Do me a favor, try it. If you are at a trade-show or come across one, give it a go. You will not be disappointed.
/ WHY SHOULD I PAY ATTENTION TO THIS?
Well, for one, it’s cutting edge and still early on in it's life cycle. It technically hasn't been released yet but that hasn't stopped a whole community from springing up to develop for it. This thing is going to be a game changer. Facebook certainly thinks so. They purchased the Oculus Rift last year for $2 billion dollars. That’s a pretty big vote of confidence for a company that has little revenue or a commercial product (the Rift is still a prototype).
/ HOW COULD WE USE IT?
A doctor could put on the Oculus Rift and experience the world as one of their patients...or a doctor could experience a MOA in a unique new way, traveling thought the body the size of a cell.
The possibilities are endless.
/ THE FUTURE
The Oculus Rift isn't out yet. Its official release date has yet to be announced but they do have the development kit for sale. This allows individuals or companies to start programming for it and to test features out.
This is an innovative tool and something to watch for. When it releases it is going to be a very big deal, make a huge impact and forever change the way we interact with the virtual world.
